SWPTL Membership

You have to live in one of the SW/NW/S Portland quadrants to be a member:

If you live in a different part of Portland, you are likely served by another tool library.

• NOTE: While our fiscal sponsor (SW Trails) has a PayPal donation page for Credit Card processing, volunteers at the Tool Library are only handling cash for membership and late fees at this time.
• Members can check out up to seven tools per week from the library during our Saturday hours.
• Tools are due back 1 week (7 days) after checkout or else late fees will be charged. Tools checked out on Saturdays are due back BEFORE 11AM on the next Saturday the library is open.
• Late fee is $5 per late hand tool per week, $10 per week for power tools or other high-value tools. Reminder that late fees are not intended to be a funding source, instead they help to encourage availability of tools for all.
• Members may renew tool checkouts one time, if the tool is not in high demand. To renew, the tool must be brought to the library in person.

Before being allowed to borrow tools, you must read and sign the Southwest Portland Tool Library Lending Policy Agreement, fill out and sign an application and waiver, and present acceptable proof of identify and a separate proof of residency.

You can enter initial member information on the SIGN UP HERE link below to save time on your application. Completing this form is the first step, there is not an automated email from it.

When you come to the library to complete the process, you need to bring:

- Proof of identity - can be a driver's license, passport, or other government-issued identification with photo.

AND

- Proof of residency - can be a utility bill, mortgage statement, lease agreement, car-insurance or registration card, or similar document that shows your current address in our West Portland (SW/NW/S) service area.

You have to live on the West-side of Portland to be a member! You MUST finish your registration at the Tool Library before your membership is complete.

Only members presenting valid member numbers can check out tools. You can't share your membership or have others check out tools for you.
